This book in 6 words:

new mythology, deep emotions, and Ash

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

I was actually looking forward to this one more than the last few. I read the novella, Phantom Lover, that introduced Dream Hunters and I looked forward to learning more about them. I love the new mythology. Who knew there were Hunters more cursed than the DHs?! It was little surprise that a book about a man feeling emotions for the first time would be emotional. I extremely enjoyed watching Arik fall in love, however, it was also painful since the woman he is falling for is the very one he betrayed. Geary was extremely intelligent, strong-willed, and caring. Her feelings about her father were powerful and understandable.

We learn some more about Ash. Most of which I had figured out, but I’m still very much looking forward to seeing where it all goes. The fact that this book is set prior to the first DH book allows us to go back and see a few favorites before their adventures begin, which was absolutely heart-breaking.

Favorite Quotes

They (mankind) live for their dreams and are possessed of them constantly.

How could one man get himself into so much trouble with just words?

- It never fails to surprise me how quickly a man can get in trouble lol.

The sarcasm in her voice was so deep it could drown a champion swimmer.

“Remember, Arikos, the key to humanity is simple. Live your life with purpose.” – Ash

Brief Summary

In the ethereal world of dreams, there are champions who fight to protect the dreamer and there are demons who prey on them…

Arik is such a predator. Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arik can only feel when he’s in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he’s drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he’s finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.

Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. But frustration and bad luck dog her every step. Especially the day they find a stranger floating in the sea. His is a face she’s seen many times…. in her dreams.

What she doesn’t know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul. Megeara’s soul.

With a secret society out to ruin her expedition, and mysterious accidents that keep threatening her life, Megeara refuses to quit. She knows she’s getting closer to Atlantis and as she does, she stumbles onto the truth of what Arik really is.

For Arik his quest is no longer simple. No human can know of a Dream-Hunter’s existence. His dream of being mortal has quickly turned into his own nightmare and the only way to save himself will be to sacrifice the very thing he wanted to be human for. The only question is, will he?

  • This one was a pretty good one! I liked the different setting (though I love NO), Greece was a neat place to set it. Plus, there is a scene in this book that replays in a later book that is kind of fun—lets just say it is a Simi moment as only Simi can do. Someone is coming as Artemis this coming weekend to Readers n Ritas but she put together a “red headed heafer” version—I can’t wait to see it!

  • I liked this one too! I seriously can’t wait for you to get to Ash’s book. It is in my top 5 most awesomesauce books, ever.

@ Felicia : I didn’t even mention the change of scenery! But you’re right, I loved getting to “see” Greece even though I love when they are set in NOLA.

Oooh I can’t wait to see what scene is replayed! I’m betting it has to do with Tory (I may have looked over the list to see who the couples are in each book…).

@ Smash Attack : I cannot wait for Ash’s book!! I’m a little worried that I’m building it up too much :/
