I laughed, but not as much
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
I really enjoyed the first in this series, The Demon in Me, and was really looking forward to this one. I’m not sure if it was partially due to my Dark Hunter obsession or if it was the varying POVs, but I didn’t connect to the characters as well in this one. Not to say I didn’t like it, because I did enjoy the book. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next in the series.
Brief Summary
Being a little wicked isn’t all bad…
Every woman has a sexy demon inside her just waiting to get out, but for Eden Riley it’s a little different. Her inner demon is named Darrak, and he’s been inhabiting bodies for the past 300 years. In the daytime, thanks to her special psychic energy, he’s able to take physical shape—a shape she wouldn’t mind getting her hands on, if it wasn’t a threat to her immortal soul…
Because of her possession, Eden now has uncontrollable black magic at her fingertips, and she and Darrak are trying to end the curse that binds them before the situation gets any worse. To do it, they’ll have to get tangled up with some unsavory characters from the underworld. When sparks and spells fly, they could get the distance they need…or each have their own private hell to pay.

Plot/Pacing/Writing Style
Contains spoilers for previous book!
I was extremely interested to see where the story would go after the death of the one witch that could reverse the curse. Not only are Eden and Darrak still stuck together, but they can’t have sex without giving Eden more Black Witch magic. I enjoyed the addition of Darrak’s past “friends” and thought there was enough action/suspense. However, I wanted a little more. I missed Eden working at the PI firm (not that she isn’t an employee, we just don’t see her take a case).
The shifting of POVs threw me off a little. The first book was all Eden and suddenly we’re not only seeing things with Darrak, but also other side characters. I didn’t hate these sections, but I didn’t love them either.
Characters
Eden felt a tad flat to me in this one. She can’t decide if she can trust Darrak (which is something I thought we had established in the first book). I’m not a huge fan of lead characters going so back and forth on their feelings. I’m still very much looking forward to the next book and seeing what happens with her magic.
Darrak was actually better in this one. He still cracks me up, but we also got to see how he feels about all of this. I can understand how conflicted and powerless he feels. It would be tough on any man (not to mention an ex-powerful arch-demon).
Favorite Quotes
“Shifters rarely crossbreed. They’re very particular about that sort of thing. Something about keeping their family lines pure. It’s very Harry Potter. Only werewolves instead of wizards. But wizards are real, too. FYI.”
Recommendations
If you enjoyed the first in the series (which I highly recommend), then you should definitely pick this up.

I’ve never read this author before. Do you think I should give her a shot?
@ Natalie : I do! I haven’t read her other series, but I’ve heard that it is just as good
I love her snarky humor.
