This book in 6 words:

it was a perfect steamy escape

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

I read and really enjoyed Night Pleasures and when I realized I had started the series out of order I was really upset… HOWEVER this really isn’t so much the first in the series as much as a book written in the world previous to the other book. It isn’t even about a Dark Hunter. That being said if you read these out of order there will be fairly big spoilers about the couple in this book.

To summarize : If you’ve already read Night Pleasures go back and read this. If not, then start with this one.

This one didn’t seem as dark as the actual Dark Hunter books, but it was still a steamy read that involved ancient Greek history (which I loved), a self-conscious woman finding her inner goddess (which I loved), and a super steamy sex slave with inner torment (which I loved).

Brief Summary

Dear Reader,

Being trapped in a bedroom with a woman is a grand thing. Being trapped in hundreds of bedrooms over two thousand years isn’t. And being cursed into a book as a love-slave for eternity can ruin even a Spartan warrior’s day. As a love-slave, I knew everything about women. How to touch them, how to savor them, and most of all how to pleasure them. But when I was summoned to fulfill Grace Alexander’s sexual fantasies, I found the first woman in history who saw me as a man with a tormented past. She, alone, bothered to take me out of the bedroom and into the world. She taught me to love again. But I was not born to know love. I was cursed to walk eternity alone. As a general, I had long ago accepted my sentence. Yet now I have found Grace-the one thing my wounded heart cannot survive without. Sure, love can heal all wounds, but can it break a two thousand year old curse?

Plot/Pacing/Writing Style/Characters

I really love Greek mythology so the involvement of the history in this was fantastic for me. I really connected to the characters and although we always know they’ll end up together, I was still on the edge of my seat wanting to know how it would all come together.

I laughed… I teared up… I cursed… all signs of a writing style that makes me come back for more!

Grace was sweet and damaged. She has a history with men that seemed all too familiar for me and touched me in a personal way. I loved seeing Julian and her just spend time together reading or cooking. Her love of books will touch any bibliophile :)

Julian has not only seen huge loss in his life, but he has a complicated history that I really enjoyed seeing come to life in flashbacks. On top of that, he has been a sex slave for thousands of years. Never has a woman even dressed him, let alone wanted to talk to him. He has a hard time allowing himself to believe that Grace could care and even if she can what difference does make if he only has a month with her?

Recommendations

If you’re a fan of fantasy/paranormal romance I highly recommend giving this a try.

  1. Felicia says:

The first couple of books all run parallel almost timelines so you don’t have to read them in order. Fantasy Lover is sort of a prequel but not necessary to read first. Though getting to see Aphrodite become a _______ is well worth it! Plus, I am wondering where I get a book like that LOL

    • Tara SG says:

@ Felicia : I hate even little spoilers so I’m definitely going to stick to reading them in order, however, I can see who you really don’t need to :)

No kidding! Makes me want to check out old used book stores :)

  2. Missie says:

*sighs* Another series I have to get my hands on. But wow! A love slave?!

I don’t know why, but I’m kind of leery of men who have seen and done it all. I always wonder, what really changes to get them to love again? Guess I will have to find out for myself.

Did you ever have any luck in finding that extra hour for reading? I could really use it right about now.

    • Tara SG says:

@ Missie : You do need to read these :)

I actually should write about how well I think the author develops the relationships. There is definitely a HUGE physical attraction at first sight, but there is something about each woman/man that makes them perfect for each other.

      I wish!

  3. Amanda says:

Is this a series even I would want to read?

  4. Natalie says:

Hahaha! I find it hilarious that you’re blowing through these books so fast. Hmm…who got you started again? Lol! You’re going through these faster than I’ll be able to, though I’ll be looking out for your reviews!
