This book in 6 words:

forget vampires… I want a dragon!

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

I came across this book via The Book Faery and knew I had to have it. I pre-ordered it and then the poor thing sat on my Kindle waiting to be read.  Why did I wait to read this?! I think I’m going to reread the end again tonight. I honestly never thought dragons could be so sexy! I’m going to be looking for more dragon books asap. And I’ll definitely be reading the rest of this series and more books by this author. Aside from the steamy romance, there was also an amazing storyline, great mythology, and kick-ass battle scenes.

Also for all of you sick of cliffhangers… no worries! This ends with you excited to read future stories that look to be about different characters in the same world, but you get satisfying conclusion to Alexia and Declan’s story (not that I don’t want to see more of them in future!).

Brief Summary

Vampire princess Alexia Feodorovna has been undead for 125 years, so it’s been a while since any man has made her pulse race. Until Declan Black. One look at his bronzed body and a fire like no other consumes her. Then she discovers that he’s a dragon lord come to take revenge on the vamps who killed his parents. And claim a crystal said to imbue its owner with incredible powers.

Alexia is ordered to torture and kill the dragon lord. Yet with each reckless encounter, she finds herself consumed by his fiery passion. A passion Declan battles, as well. Will he be able to resist the fire of lust she kindles within him and keep revenge in his heart? Or will he risk everything to quench the burning desire and claim the vampire as his own?

Plot/Pacing/Writing Style

Just because this romance will leave you needing a cold shower, doesn’t mean it didn’t have a great story. I was really impressed with the new vampire and dragon mythology. There is a terrible bad guy that will made you cringe when he appears and you’re not really sure what “side’ you’re on or how it’s all going to work out. We’re never really sure when/where the story takes place, but I got the impression it was modern times even though it had an old-world feel which I loved.

The action and heat kick off right from the start and do not slow down. Good luck putting this one down :)

Characters

I really enjoyed Alexia. She is a child of a queen who expects more out of her than she can give. She’s been tortured mentally and physically, but can’t leave. She is completely torn by her feelings for Declan and yearns to know what it feels like to be cared for and cherished. But don’t go thinking she’s all weak and emotional, she’ll also kick your ass.

Declan is giving my vampire boyfriends a run for their money. Aside from being a strong alpha male, he also cares deeply about his family and is willing to give his life to save them. He is extremely conflicted about his feelings for Alexia, he should want to kill her not protect her. I also loved his sometimes cocky attitude and ability to make jokes at times he really shouldn’t

I’m really looking forward to see more of the side characters, especially Tallan and her story :)
