This book in 6 words:

really falling for Sophie and Wes

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

* This review may contain spoilers for previous books in series!*

If I hadn’t signed up for a book tour for this book I probably wouldn’t have continued the series after reading the first book, I’m really glad I had this needing to be read. I wasn’t all that impressed with The Pace mostly because it was a storyline that was predictable only because it’s been overdone lately. That being said, seeing the characters grow in the sequel was fun to read. We were introduced to some side characters that spiced things up. While this one was still slow paced and somewhat predictable, I was wrapped up in the story and read it all in one sitting without getting bored. Another HUGE cliffhanger! I’ll be looking for the next in the series.

Brief Summary

In the aftermath of Sophie’s ordeal, Weston will make some uncharacteristic decisions to distance himself from the past in an attempt to change the future. But, while venturing into the improbable, the present sneaks up in a chilling way that will lead to Wes’ unexpected submission. Suddenly, Sophie will find herself watching as both his immortal secret and his own existence are threatened.

Continuously intriguing, The Broken Lake takes readers to a place where eternal bonds confront a division that is sure to leave everyone wondering whom they can trust.

Plot/Pacing/Writing Style

While I normally like the mix of sci-fi and paranormal, I’m still not sold on the science in this series. I don’t dislike the plot, I’m just waiting to see what happens in the next books before I judge too harshly. This one seemed a little quicker paced, but was still a slow moving book without a lot of action. Again the action all hits at the end and feels rushed and leaves us hanging…

Characters

I liked the characters in the first book, but I’m really falling for them after this one. They are trying to make a new story for themselves and prove that they are not their past. I found it refreshing that they were attempting to learn more about each other even after “being in love” and “knowing everything about the other”.

Sophie is even more caring and stubborn. I like watching her transition from being independent to being in her first relationship and finding that balance. Wes is learning to live in the moment and is having a hard time being away from Sophie (or too close to her lol).

Can I just take a minute to say that I don’t understand or like the reason they can’t get too close physically. It would make more sense to me if it was about his body temperature.

Recommendations

Even if you didn’t like the first in the series, The Pace, I still think you should give this one a go. Maybe still borrow it if you aren’t sure :)
