very realistic characters with snaky fun
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
** This review does NOT contain spoilers for previous books in the series! **
After reading and really liking The Accidental Werewolf, I knew that I had to read more by this amazing author. The second in this series did not disappoint. I’m very glad I read this. Dakota has a way with characters that make you want to punch them in the face while you still worry about and love them (much like many of my real friends). I can’t get enough of the sarcastic quips and tough females! Warning: reading this may cause you to cuss more than usual the next day.
Brief Summary
It’s a lousy first day on the job for Nina Blackman when a patient, loopy from the anesthesia, bites her. At least he was cute. But for real drama she can’t beat the next evening. Nina wakes up with a set of razor-sharp fangs, bionic vision, supersonic hearing, and a taste for blood. But there’s a good explanation: It’s her patient, Long Island vampire Greg Statleon. Actually they’re perfect for each other—if Nina’s willing to commit to one man for eternity

Plot/Pacing/Writing Style
This is another strong, independent woman thrown into the paranormal world against her will. Nina is forced to face personal issues from her past and learn to trust others. I really enjoyed the vampire mythology in this one. It was traditional with a few twists to keep it interesting.
The pacing was well-done. Like the first book there is some repetitiveness, however, like I said in my first review it was realistic. I would need some time to come to terms with such a HUGE change in my life.
Characters
Nina is fantastic. She is one hell of a tough chick. She swears like a sailor and likes to act as if she needs no one in her life. Nina had a tough childhood leading her to only trust her well-being with herself, which is a problem when you’re turned into a vampire and need help adjusting. Her constant battle to become human got really old, but it was what a real person like her would do. By the end of the book I loved her even more.
Greg is pretty damn near perfect. When asking Dakota if he was based on a real guy who was single or had single brothers, she told me that he was based on her man (and no he doesn’t have single brothers). She is one very lucky lady. Greg is a guy who won’t put up with Nina’s shit, but still takes care of her. He is sweet and caring and sexy. I love a man who can hold his own in an argument
Recommendations
If you liked the first in the series, then you probably don’t need me to tell you to read this. If you like sarcastic humor, a touch of romance, and the paranormal, I highly recommend you check out this series!

YEAH! I am so glad you read Nina’s book!
Honestly Book 3 is the best of the series and then book 4 is almost like having 2 Nina’s (when you read it you will get that)!
I am so glad you liked it
YEAH!
Cool! I’ll have to check it out, now. For some reason, I’d gotten a negative impression of this series, but now I shall have to rethink. Greg sounds fantastic!
@ Felicia : I’m so glad you introduced me to this series!!
You liked the next book even more?! Now I really can’t wait to read it!
@ Tiger Holland : I really like this series, but I would say maybe try the first book from the library. The main characters are very real and annoying on purpose… that may not work for some people as well as it worked for me
