Book Ban

I’m putting myself on a book buying ban for the month of July.

No books over $3 (except Linger which I’ve already pre-ordered). It’s not like I don’t have enough books to read! I have tons in my TBR (not including all the books I want to reread). This is partially because I NEED to read the books I own and also because it might be a good bargaining tool while talking the hubs into letting me get my HP tattoo for my birthday :)

So what am I going to read? Any review books that come via ARC tours take priority. I also have some review books I own that I need to get through. I’m making some time to reread the Night Huntress books and at least one HP book. I’ll probably reread Shiver right before the release of Linger. And of course there will be the books you guys vote on.

And why am I posting about it? I’m hoping this will help keep me honest. Those of you who own eReaders might understand how hard it is to override the impulse to simply click a button and have the book. Hi. My name is Tara and I’m addicted to buying books….

Feel free to yell at me in any IMM that I buy books (except maybe next week’s because the books I bought prior to today don’t count…).

Do you have a book buying problem?

  • Alright. **Deep Breath** We’re going to do this together, ok? Lol. But seriously. No more book buying for me either this month. I have so many great books already on my shelves that I haven’t read, and I’ve got more coming in the mail. Yikes!

  • You can do it! I am right there with you again this month (well except during romcon if I need to buy one to get an author to sign)! We will all do it together :)

  • [...] again after purchasing a Kindle. I need help… and that’s where you come in. I’m putting myself on a book ban for (at least) the month of July. One thing I’ve learned from the book blogging community is [...]

    @ Natalie : We CAN do this! I think… :)

  • Tara SG

@ Felicia : Yay! Thanks! Well RomCom doesn’t count :)

  • Wow… I don’t know if I could do that… Limit myself – yes, but a ban.. hrm. G’luck!

  • You can do it! I think you’ll rediscover the awesome stuff already on your shelves and in your e-reader and that will help get you through the month! Good Luck!

  • Good luck! I’m on a long term book buying ban that I only break for really good sales. I only buy books every couple of months, but I still can’t manage to get around to reading the ones I own. With library books, review books, tour books, etc. I’ve only read about 35% my own books this year. I was hoping to be more around 70%, so yeah. I’m thinking I might do an entire book acquiring ban sometime later this year.

If we could all focus on our own books for just a little while each year, imagine all the forgotten books we could discover on our shelves!

@ Kristen : We’ll see if I’ll be able to do it or not :)

  • Tara SG

@ Stacey (Say Something Stacey) : Thank you!! I’m sure I have MORE than enough to read of the rest of year or more lol :)

  • Tara SG

@ Jennifer : I’m starting to feel that way too (that I never read MY books). I think I’m going to incorporate some “readathons” that involve just reading books you own or rereads…. We’ll see how this picks up…

  • Hehe, oh dear, I know *exactly* what you mean, but I have hubby who stops me from acting on my impulses and replacing all our furniture with stacks of hardbacks :D

I have about 20 odd books I’ve bought and not yet read in my TBR pile at the moment, and what am I doing? Re-reading Harry Potter for the umpteenth time, and trying to figure out which books I want to buy when I’m on holidays next week!

I agree with the $3 rule! I picked up a book for $2AU (that’s like, $1-$1.50 US) last week; how could I *not* buy it at that price? I’m not even sure what it’s about… but it had a pretty cover :D

  • Also: good luck! You can do it! And we’re already a quarter of the way through :D

@ Sarah : See the hubs and I have separate checking accounts… so he doesn’t really see how much I spend on books. He got a little worried when he could no longer see our coffee table (but now I have a Kindle and can easily hide them) :)

20 books is a problem… which makes me worried about my over 200 books (I almost fell out of my chair when I looked at the final number on the spreadsheet… and that’s mainly just eBooks and not my actual bookshelves…). Oh I want to reread the HP books so bad!! Must have a reread week soon!

A pretty cover is definitely worth that much!

  • Tara SG

    @ Sarah : Thanks!!

  • Haha! separate accounts is a good idea… hmmm… 200? Oh my goodness, terrifying!

We saw the trailer for the Deathly Hallows movie when we went to see Eclipse, and I’ve been on an Harry Potter kick ever since :D
