Who Am I Stalking? {6} Reading with Tequila

This feature isn’t nearly as creepy as it sounds… at least I hope not.

Here is where I shine the spotlight on a fellow book blogger

that has earned a spot in my GoogleReader.

Featuring Jennifer @ Reading with Tequila

I started following Jennifer’s personal blog (I think she changed it up and it’s now a movie blog) when I started my 101 Goals in 1001 Days challenge. I instantly followed her book blog (Reading with Tequila) as soon as she started it and I’ve loved seeing it grow! I have no idea how she manages to read as much as she does and still write great reviews and interesting discussion posts. She likes a very wide variety of books and is very honest with her opinion. You’ll see her in my “added to TBR” and “Favorite Posts” sections quite often :)

Favorite Posts

Piracy: It’s Real. And It’s All Your Fault. – We are ALL to blame for book piracy, but what can we do about it?

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I had never considered reading this before reading her review. It’s now one of my favorite series.

Were We Actually Promised Cheap eBooks? – A VERY good post about the rise in eBook prices!

Who Was Your Biggest Influence? – Talking about who made her a reader and asking us to reflect on who helping shaped our reading habits.

Mini Interview

1. Why did you start a book blog?

I have spent my life surrounded by people who don’t read. My parents claim it takes too much time. My husband claims that if it hasn’t been made into a movie, it isn’t worth reading. And if does have a movie version, why bother with the book? My friends would rather watch the Kardashians *shudder*. My younger daughters are only old enough to gnaw on my books and my oldest thinks of it as some sort of sick punishment (although I am slowly working on her).

I had all these thoughts and opinions about the books I read and wanted to listen. Once I discovered the world of book blogging, it was like I finally found my home. I found great people who actually got me and I discovered a tremendous amount of books that I never would have learned of otherwise. I only wish I knew about this years ago.

2. If you could have dinner with any author (dead or alive) who would it be?

I just had about 14 names jump into my head. I have so many questions for Agatha Christie, Dante, Laurell K. Hamilton, Michael Crichton, Margaret Atwood and many others. The one name that seems to be screaming the loudest seems to be Stephen King. I love his personal opinion colum in Entertainemnt Weekly and I would love to get to know more of what goes on inside his head.

3. Do you have a secret favorite book? A guilty pleasure?

Yes and I don’t talk about it much. I seriously think my husband may be the only person who knows about this dirty little secret of mine. I read *deep breath* Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel novels. I am such a screaming Joss Whedon fangirl and I can’t cope with the ending of either of these series. When I miss the charachters, I can pick up one of these books and visit with them while enjoying new adventures. Now you know my shame.

4. Sum up your day, your life, or yourself using just six words:

Tantrums, diapers, coffee, books, never sleep.

5. Do you have any advice for fellow book bloggers?

Embrace the community. I’ve been blogging for over 6 years and have never seen the kind of love, support, guidance and acceptance that I’ve experienced in my few short months of book blogging. Comment, join challenges, take part in events and really get yourself out there, because the people you will meet are passionate about what they are doing and extremely welcoming of those who want to join them.

Thank you so much Jennifer!!

Be sure you guys head over and check out her blog!

  • I stalk her too! Anyone who will do a drinking game while doing laundry is fine by me (Friday nights twitter conversation LOL)

  • Great advice, Jennifer! I love your blog, and I love the book-blogging community–it’s a wonderful hobby to have bc there’s a built-in support group. :-)

I’ve considered reading novelizations of tv shows, too, but I’ve resisted, since they’re regarded as “guilty pleasures”. Maybe I’ll go get those Supernatural novels with the extra Winchester stories, now.

I love reading Stephen King in EW. He’s incredibly smart and savvy, not to mention humble.

  • Thanks for featuring me Tara!

@Felicia – Drinking on Twitter is like drinking with the whole world :)

@Tiger – I’ve gotten over most of the embarrassment that goes along with guilty pleasures. Since I started book blogging, if anyone ever sees me reading something along those lines I just say I’m reviewing it. This seems to disarm most book snobs.

  • Tara SG

@ Felicia : hmmm that might actually get me to do my laundry… :)

  • Tara SG

    @ Jennifer : Thank you!

  • I’m also a fan – she has a great ‘blogging personality’. :)
Thanks for the interview, it was a fun read.

Felicia, Jennifer, and Tara – Drinking always makes household chores easier. :)

Just when I thought I couldn’t love Jenn more, she shares this: “I read *deep breath* Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel novels. I am such a screaming Joss Whedon fangirl and I can’t cope with the ending of either of these series.”

    YES! YES! YES!!!!!!!!!

RwT is a great blog, and I’ve been known to spend hours there just being in awe!

  • Great interview! I love Jennifer’s book blog – I had no idea she had a movie one as well!

  • @Amanda – Agreed!

    @Missie – I <3 you too!

@Alita – The movie blog isn't very good and isn't updated often. Please don't get you hopes up about it being anything other than random and boring :)

  • Tara SG

@ Amused : Glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Tara SG

    @ Amanda : so very true :)

  • Tara SG

@ Missie : I haven’t read them in a long time… but I remember liking them in high school :) I’ve never come across an Angel novel… might have to look for that…
