This book in 6 words:

laugh out loud romantic paranormal mystery

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?

I first came across The Demon in Me by Michelle Rowen via Smexy Book’s review, but wanted to wait until it was available for the Kindle to read. This book was EXACTLY what I needed right now! It made me laugh out loud, tense up with anticipation, and fan myself off :) And come on, a A Cyrano de Bergerac reference?! At that point I considered leaving my husband for Michelle. I cannot for the life of me understand why this is the first book by her I’ve read! I’m very much so looking forward to the next in the series, but not too much that it is making me depressed (I’m looking at you Richelle Mead).

Brief Summary

Hell hath no fury…

Fate has led Eden Riley to become a “psychic consultant” to the police, even though her abilities are unreliable at best. Those paranormal powers are about to get her into a jam she couldn’t have predicted. After her hunky police detective partner guns down a serial killer in front of her, Eden realizes that she’s quite literally no longer alone. A voice in her head introduces himself as Darrak. He’s a demon. But not in a bad way!

…like a woman possessed.

Darrak lost his original body 300 years ago thanks to a witch’s curse. This is the first time he’s ever been able to speak directly to a host, plus there’s a bonus. Eden’s psychic energy helps him to take form during daylight hours. He wants to use this chance to find a way to break his curse — finally. Otherwise, Eden’s going to have to learn to live with this sexy demon…like it or not.

And she thinks she might like it.

Plot/Pacing/Writing Style

The plot was extremely original! A sexy male demon is trapped in the body of a shy woman and needing her to help him escape his curse before it kills her. Since they can’t be far from each other (specially at night) this makes dating especially hilarious. I honestly couldn’t believe how much I laughed while reading this! There was also a good deal of sexual tension and mystery. We’re being introduced to things Otherworldly alongside Eden which makes this new world less confusing. The pacing was also very well-done. I only wished I would have paced myself better and not read it so quickly :)

Characters

Eden is fantastic. Witty, smart, and a little reclusive. She’s got some issues with family and men which only makes her seem more real and relatable. She’s got some trust issues to begin with so trying to decide whether or not to believe the demon who possessed her is all the more difficult.

Darrak is my kind of alpha male. He’s arrogant, funny, and sexy. However, he’s also been trapped inside of humans for the last 300 years making him surprisingly caring and protective (and jealous).

Favorite Quotes

Darrak was offering to act as her Cyrano de Bergerac?

As far as she was concerned, 99 percent of men were born to cheat. The challenge was finding that 1 percent that wouldn’t.

However, finding that elusive needle in the haystack usually resulted in finding whole lot of other pricks.

Recommendations

If you enjoy Urban Fantasy (but don’t expect a lot of violence or action) or paranormal romance (but don’t expect a ton of steamy sex scenes), then I think you’ll really enjoy this fun read!
