Mini Review (Frostbite)
I’ve decided to break the next four Vampire Academy reviews into two groups of mini-reviews because to be honest I feel like with a series like these you’re going to read them or not based on the first book. I will say that while I didn’t love the second as much as the first, I still really liked it. I felt like the mystery wasn’t as overwhelming, but the action was kicked up. The ending was a little predictable, but still very well-written and tough to experience even second-hand.
We get to know all the characters much better and I feel the author does a fantastic job of shaping the characters in a realistic and engaging way. There are also some new faces that work very well with the story.
If you liked the first book, Vampire Academy, you should definitely continue reading the series!

Mini Review (Shadow Kiss)
This one got me pumped up in the action scenes, swooning during the romantic ones, and crying at the end. We deal with A LOT in this part of the series. While developing deeper relationships with some and distancing ourselves from others, we also start to see the real toll Lissa’s and Rose’s bond is having on Rose. I’m also still having a lot of problems with the whole “they come first” thing, but I have a feeling we’ll deal more with that in later books. The politics of the royal world also start to become a bigger part of their lives shaping their futures in ways most aren’t happy about. I’m really, really, really starting to worry about my sanity when I finish the fifth book and have to wait for the last in the series to be released…

I am going to read these this weekend! I love this world that she has created and I wondered when we would start to see the effects on Rose since it has to be harder on her side
@ Felicia : I’m so glad you’re reading these with me! I cannot wait to talk to you about the next few books
I keep on eyeing the series, and I’ve very nearly bought them or taken them out from the library a few times. What keeps stopping me is the the whole unfinished series thing; and something gave me the idea these books didn’t really work as standalone–they had cliffhangery endings?
I really want to read them, but I’m restraing myself until they’re all published
@ Sarah : Do yourself a BIG favor and wait until December… Why I didn’t look into that before I started these I do not know. Lesson learned for the future
I do very highly recommend the series though and hope you read them this winter!
I will *definitely* wait, especially after your review and suggestion
It just seems like one of those series that would kill me to wait for.
This year is SHOCKING. So many books I’m dying to read are coming out. SO not good for my purse–or increasingly limited shelf space!
Thanks for the tip
@ Sarah : This is an AMAZING year for books! It does seem like a look of series are coming to a close this year :/ Definitely not good for the book budget!
It’s bitterwseet. Very excited for conclusions and wrap-ups, but sad there won’t be anymore
@ Sarah : At least she is continuing the world just with another POV! We’ll probably get to check in with our favorites
Oh dead, it’s like Cassie Clare, Maria V. Snyder and Kristin Cashore.
It’s a money-pit!
@ Sarah : I’ve never read a series that was a spin-off before, but if it’s anything like failed TV attempts… I’m not getting my hopes up :/
