Many lovers of books and tattoos have combined the two. In my opinion, there is a magic in being able to carry your favorite quote with you wherever you go. I’m far from being the only one who feels this way. LiveJournal has a group called Bookworms with Ink in which people share their literary tattoos and ask for advice before getting one.
And so I ask:
- Do you have a literary tattoo? Please share it with us and tell us why you chose it.
- Do you have any ideas for future literary tattoos? Are there any quotes that you might one day want to have printed on you? (No plans on ever getting a tattoo? Just let us know what you would get if you were to ever get a tattoo!)
- How do you think the author feels about having their work permanently inked on a fan’s body?
Gee can you tell who posted this week’s topic
Current Tattoos:
I do have some literary tattoo, but not nearly as many as I want. I have bird silhouettes on my shoulder inspired by Jonathon Livingston Seagull, “river” on my foot inspired by Siddhartha, and two punctuation marks (ampersand and semi-colon).
Possible Future Tattoos:
I always have plans for future tattoos! I’d love to get something from Harry Potter. I was an avid reader growing-up, but stopped reading in high school… that was until a friend made me read HP and resparked my hunger for reading. As far as what I’d like from HP, it depends on when you ask me. Some days I want “lumos” and others I want a key with wings.
Other than HP, I’ve considered getting a Dune inspired tattoo containing part of the litany of fear. I’ve also played around with the idea of getting page numbers instead of quotes for my favorite passages.
How I think the author might feel:
This probably varies depending on the extreme of the tattoo and the author. If the author is against tattoos for religious or personal reasons, they might not be so keen on you inking their work on yourself. However, in general I think they would be honored if not a little shocked. Their work gets to be viewed on a daily basis, asked about and cherished for someone’s entire life.
So what about you? Any literary tattoos or dreams of future ones?

Glad you liked the topic!
You know I love your blog and TT! I think a great way to promote TT would be to make a button for it that we could add to our blog! Or would it be okay to grab the TT image you already have and post it on my blog?
Oh! And check this out! Tattoos inspired by FANFICTION! Wha?

@ Missie : awww thanks! You can totally steal the button I use in the posts! You can also post your own Tattoo Tuesdays if you want and I’ll link back to you in my post
@ Missie : Um wow… I’m not even sure what to think of that… The tattooed quotes from their fanfiction?! And what does “The Office” have to do with Twilight? I feel like I’m missing something…
LOL! The Office was a title of fanfiction story based on Twilight. It had nothing to do with the show. I heard that the fanfiction story was supposed to be really hot, but before I had a chance to read it, the author pulled it. My loss, I guess. *snorts*
I checked out Bookworms with Ink yesterday and was blown away! Did you see that “Love is enough” tat? AMAZING!
*runs off to steal your button*
@ Missie : Hmmm interesting… I’ll probably check out the site a little more if I have time this weekend…
I did see that! It is beautiful. I follow Bookworms with Ink in GoogleReader
Thanks for posting my button!! If I ever decide to do blog buttons on my sidebar, I’ll be sure to have yours up.
