This book in 6 words:
Sometimes being pretty is not everything
Why did I read this?
After devouring the first in the series, Uglies, I instantly downloaded Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. Putting that Kindle to good use
Brief Summary
At the end of the last book Tally turns herself in knowing she’ll be made into a Pretty. She did this hoping that David would bring her the cure, the pills she agreed to test. See being Pretty isn’t all about looks. David’s parents, the couple who started the Smoke, learned that the surgery also caused lesions to be formed on the brain allowing the population to be controlled.
As a Pretty, Tally doesn’t really seem to fit in as easily as she should be. She has joined the Crims and still loves to pull tricks. However, it’s not until she starts hanging out with Zane that she remembers that there is something she is supposed to be doing…
Plot/Pacing/Setting
You would think it would be that different from Uglies, but it really is. Scott Westerfeld creates a whole new world. We get to finally see what it is like in New Prettytown. The parties, the extra surgeries, the endless fun. He even creates his own language that I loved and wish I had someone who would get it if I threw in a “brain-missing” or “pretty-making”.
This one is maybe slightly less action-packed, but it’s not slow moving by any means.
Characters
We get to learn more about Tally while being introduced to some new characters like Zane. I am not a fan of love triangles, but I was able to stomach this one due to loving the overall story so much. Shay also continues to grow and I believe she is a great portrayal of the friend you can never quite make it work with.

Recommendations
Same as before, if you liked Uglies you will like this! If you like YA Fantasy or just YA, I would highly recommend starting the series.
Going Deeper
This is also really similar to the last book. I’ll probably save what I would say here for the next book’s review.
