I have the BEST husband in the world!!

I finally decided to take my husband up on his offer to get me an eReader! After doing research between the Nook and the Kindle (thank you Kindle Vixen for the great info!), I decided to get a Kindle. While I really liked some of the features the Nook offered and love its look, I couldn’t get past Amazon.com’s eBook store.

my Kindle in its case

First things first, what is with the name? Kindle means light or set fire, arose or inspire, become impassioned or excited :)

I wanted to wait a few days before I wrote my initial review. After using it all weekend, I’m in love.

  • I was able to read for hours (15 the first day) without it hurting my eyes.
  • The screen stayed readable with no glare even with the sun shining in the window.
  • Needing a booklight didn’t bother me while in the car because I bought a M-Edge case and the light that goes in it. However, it will be less comfortable to hold the case (and not just the Kindle) in bed.
  • At first I was confused at why there was a next button on both sides. I kept hitting “next” with my left hand when I felt like it should be “previous”… and then I read while just holding it with my left hand (um duh! moment).
  • Having books available for instant download could end up being a problem… I’ve been keeping my wireless off to help with the cravings.
  • The battery lasted all weekend (5 books) without needing to be charged.
  • I do wish that there was a way to create “files” or sort the books other than by title or author.
  • I love that it syncs with Kindle on my iPhone, keeping my place when I switch from one to the other.

I’ll be sure to write again after I’ve used it for few months. This way you can see how much I’ve used it once the “new toy” feeling wears off.

    @ Stacey : Thanks!

  • I am especially grateful for my Kindle today. I made a visit to the Emergency Room on Wednesday morning and ended up in the hospital. i have 280 bboks with me here to keep me amused as I “hurry up and wait” for the ntxt procedure. I have read 90% of Shutter Island so far.

No more bad feelings about this? I don’t have any about my camera either. Funny how that works. ;)

  • Tara SG

@ Kathy Martin : Oh no!!! I hope everything is OK!! Luckily you have the Kindle to keep you occupied!

How are you liking Shutter Island? I’ve heard it’s good, but I’m worried it’s a little too scary for me :/

  • Tara SG

@ Amanda : Nope! Partially because I really love it and also because I already paid back the savings :)

    Glad you’re enjoying your camera!!

  • I found your comments on the Kindle really helpful. I have been wondering whether to invest and am trying to decide whether to opt for this or wait and see what the iPad will be like. I can see the temptation to download – hadn’t thought about that but I suspect I might end up spending a lot … Will you be clearing out any bookshelves as a result of the Kindle?

@ Izzy : I’m really glad I could help!! I’ve definitley NOT saved money so far having bought far more books that normal… but at least I’m getting more for my money?

I was never considering the iPad due to already having an iPhone (not that I don’t love my phone) and because it is so much more expensive. I am interested to see how well it does.

I will be clearing out some books that I now have doubles of…. I’ll probably do a random comment drawing every once in a while or something :)
