Why did I read this?

I saw this book EVERYWHERE but couldn’t bring myself to buy it. Although it has a gorgeous cover, something was holding me back from picking up the hardcover. So I got on the library wait-list and stuck it out a couple months. I’m glad I did. While I really liked it (and read it all in one sitting), it’s not something I need to own.

Brief Summary

Romance was not part of Nora Grey’s plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seem to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen — and, when it come to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Plot/Pacing/Setting

I was a little worried about the plot being about fallen angels as someone who is not religious, however, it wasn’t a problem at all. I like plots that involve another world we’re merely not seeing. I think the story was well-thought out and I’m looking forward to see where the author takes it next.

The story was full of action and spaced out really well. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering who was really the bad guy and how it was all going to come together.

Characters

I liked Nora a lot. I thought she was interesting and funny. I often laughed out loud when her and her best friend, Vee, were joking. Patch is incredible! He is the absolute cocky, bad-boy that you cannot help but fall for. You never know if you should trust him, but your heart is already pounding when he’s around.

Recommendations

I’d recommend this to anyone who likes a good teen romance. It’s a thriller, mystery, and overall good read. If you like YA Fantasy or Paranormal, you’ll probably enjoy this as well.

Going Deeper

This was more of a fun read than deep and thought-provoking. One quote in particular that I really enjoyed was when Nora asks her mom when she knew she loved Nora’s dad. Her mom responds by saying a year after they were married. She explains that it was only after they had to work on their love that she realized how real and strong it was. You really do have to make love work. Marriage isn’t all about finding the perfect person. The hubs drives me nuts just as much as he makes me swoon and that’s OK with me.
