Last night my friend, Mrs Shoo, and I went to see Seth Grahame-Smith talk at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Why there? Because on Tuesday he released his newest book, Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter. You may be more familiar with his best-selling mash-up Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.
He was so personable and funny! His story about the how Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter came to be actually seems quite logical. Last summer was Abe’s 200th birthday so it seemed like every time he went into a book store there would be a table up front with every book about Abe you could imagine. It was also the summer of Twilight… which means that right next to Abe table was a vampire table. And after seeing this on multiple occasions he decided to combine the two.
So he read up about Lincoln (without ever visiting Springfield making his trip to my hometown all that more fun!) and read as much as he could that was written by Honest Abe so that he could pick up his style. He also decided to take vampires back to their roots. No sparkling. No falling in love. Just kill or be killed. He started with an outline (he says the book would end up about whales if he didn’t lol) and puts on his iTunes playlist filled with soundtracks. He has them sorted by mood which I think is brilliant. (His favorite movie soundtrack is Snow Falling on Cedars.)
I think the best questions of the night were: “How do you feel about all the mash-ups coming out after P&P&Z?” to which he said that it was a fad and that he thinks it will pass and “Is this going to be made into a movie?” and YES it is! He will be writing the adaption himself and Tim Burton is one of the producers. FYI Pride & Prejudice & Zombies is also being made into a film starring Natalie Portman as Elizabeth
!!
Not only did I have fun listening to Seth, but I got my copy of Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter signed AND I got a copy of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies signed for one lucky reader!!

A Vampire (That’s what my son said. He knows this stuff)
lkish77123 at gmail dot com
Well it’s really quiet obvious, a mob of zombies, they are slower and not as strong as super hot vamps, I mean vampires
And to let you know how crazy I’ve become the first thing I thought of with this question was an episode of Angel!! I know I’ve become crazy and you’re like 80% to blame for making me check out the vamp stuff!
You look super cute in the photo by the way, and what a cool experience. I’ve always wanted to go to a book signing…maybe something for my next 101?
I tweeted! @saysomthngstac
and
I blogged http://saysomethingstacey.com/?p=2125
Smart boy
Thanks for entering!!
Aww thanks! I think I’m going to add it to my current list (not allowing myself to count this one).
I think I may change my BSG goal to Buffy and Angel
Thank you!!
Zombies would definitely be easier to kill since they’re slow and not very bright. Hmmmm….unless they’re the rage type zombies featured in 28 days….but they seem to be a zombie anomaly.
I would say a vampire just because a mob of zombies sounds a lot scarier:)I tweeted http://twitter.com/bangersis/status/10144892737
Thanks for this contest! I have wanted to read this book:)
A vampire! Without the benefit of having read Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter yet, I’ll have to go with my Twilight research… and according to Ms. Meyer, vamps are seriously hard to kill. (:
Enter me please! I think, based on dawn of the dreadfuls and how easy it was to kill the zombies compared to how hard it is to kill a vamp, that vamps are harder
too bad too because i love vamps

haleymathiot@yahoo.com thanks!!!
zombies of course vampires just stake their rears. Zombies will try to eat you as you are trying to kill them.
I twittered it at DarkAngelNY
OMG! What an amazing event! So Lucky! I love Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! And I can’t wait to read the new book!
And of course Zombies would be easier to kill!
Okay, I didn’t actually come here for this, but I’ll bite:
A mob of zombies, clearly. They shamble and waddle and are generally slow. Plus they’re falling apart. Bound to be easier, even if it’s a bit overwhelming. The stench, though…
Anywho, I dropped by for this. I emailed it, but I’m not sure I have the right address, so here is the text of that email:
Hey. Just wanted to know if you were still interested in guest posting on Book Rat. I really loved the idea of PABD, so I’m eager to see what you would do. If you’re still interested, let me know. Thanks.

Canada is sad
LOL cool giveaway though!!
ahh why are ALL competitions US only!!!! it truly sucks
Also, I think Zombies are way easier to kill. Hack off their heads and your done. Plus they are dumb and you can out run them easily. Vamps are sexy (to lure you in), smart and quick. Much harder to kill. That’s why you hear stories of 2000 year old vamps… but not stories about 2000 year old zombies.
I think zombies….mostly because I would feel more emotional about killing vampires….
I think a mob of zombies would be easier to kill, because they’re not as smart as a vampire. All they’re thinking about is chomping on your head. Also, a vampire has been around longer than zombies, and is more skilled at fighting. And, according to some myths, a few vampires can read minds, so that would make it very difficult to outsmart one in hand-to-hand combat.

@ EJ Stevens : That’s what I was thinking… even the zombies in Zombieland looked like something I wouldn’t want to come across!
@ Angie D : Very true! Thanks for entering!!
@ Jennifer : HAHAHAHAHA that’s so true! It depends on what “kind” of vampire lol. If you’re looking for more vamp books you should check out the other contest I have going on where you get to choose the vamp book you win
@ HaleyKnitz : Thanks for entering!! I love vamps too
Good thing it seems like most people think it’s harder to kill them!
@ Paula : Very good point! Hmmm something I don’t want to think about…
@ Missie : Thanks!!
@ Misty : Thanks for joining in! I did get your email and will get back to you tomorrow after work. Thank you!!
@ Lindsey : Sorry!! You can still enter my vampire giveaway that has no location limitations
@ Rachel : You live in a beautiful country already making you a winner :p
You can enter my vampire contest that doesn’t have the US restriction
@ elizabeth : I think I would feel the same way
@ Kelsey O : Thanks for entering!! I’m thinking vampires are going to win this argument
Thanks but I was only interested in the signed book. I doubt Mr Graham-Smith will be coming here for a signing anytime soon. And for some reason most authors only travel here for the Sydney Writer’s Festival which is expensive to enter. Figures. Maybe I need to lobby for more authors to visit OZ and do free events!!
A vampire–there’s only one, and you can just pull out the garlic or stake.
@ JenP : You’re one of the few who answered this way
I think a mob of zombies would be easier to kill, because they’re the walking dead, while vampires still have brains.

Zombies would be harder to kill. Just shoot the vampire from far away in the heart.
@ Aik : Thanks for entering and tweeting!
@ Dawn : Guess that depends on the type of vampire
A mob of zombies. Zombies are mindless and dumb. Vampires are not.
I supposedly retweeted here: http://twitter.com/fohblog but it’s not showing up, blah blah. And I’ll post about this tomorrow.
I think zombies would be easier to kill. They move a lot slower
I am guessing, I have a better chance to kill one vampire, than a mob of zombies. I think it would be more fun to go after the mob of zombies, though. I would probably use an flame-thrower.
Thanks!

@ Amanda : Again… nothing if not logical
@ Raelena : Good point! Thanks for entering!
@ Shani : I definitely agree that it would be fun to use a flame-thrower
Thanks for entering!!
Definitely zombies. Nothing a little pump action rifle wouldn’t cure, right?
Ah.. and I tweeted, too.
A vampire — there’s only one.

Didn’t you know? Logic is my secret lover.
Anyway. I tweeted again using my espeutish account. That seemed to actually work. And I blogged here: http://redefinitionmission.wordpress.com/2010/03/10/signed-book-giveaway-by-25-hour-books/
I think I’d go for the one vampire versus the mob of zombies. Or I’ll let at the vampire and the zombies have at each other.
Thanks for the fun giveaway.

I don’t think that’s fair. What kind of vampire? How fast is it? What weapons do I have? What kind of zombies? See? Not enough information. But if I had to choose between the mob of unknown zombies in one building & the vampire behind the other with no obvious weapons (aka cross, garlic, stake, flame thrower, gigantic gun), I think I’d choose the zombies because if they turned me, I’d like to believe I’d be less aware of my horrible horrible fate & a single zombie should be easier to kill than a vampire so I’d hope someone would have pity for me.
Does this answer show my over analyzation? My lack of confidence in vampire/zombie killing skills or both?
Please count me. I think zombies would be easier to kill. They are mindless.
