Pretty Book Covers (I added a wrap!)

I recently posted about the amazing book covers I got from Etsy. Not that there was anything wrong with them the way they were, but as someone who got the covers to protect my books while carrying them in my purse, I added something to them… I added an adjustable strap to help hold it together so stuff doesn’t get in-between the pages!! And guess what… it was really, really easy to do! You don’t need book covers to use them and they can easily be wrapped around the back cover when not being used.

So how did I do it?

I went to a fabric/craft store and picked up some ribbon that would match both covers and was 5/8″ wide (I would recommend at least this width so the velcro will fit). I also picked up some clear sticky back velcro strips that are 3.5″ x 3/4″. I cut the strips width wise to make them fit the ribbon and then placed them at each end of the ribbon. I would recommend wrapping the ribbon around a thicker book to make sure it is at least big enough for those. The length of the velcro will allow it to work for thinner books as well. ** The velcro says it is not for use on fabrics, however, it sticks well. You might have to be a little gentle when unfastening it. (I also very easily added a bookmark to the cover that didn’t have one!)
