Dead Until Dark is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse or Southern Vampire Series, and a fantastic start. I loved this book, the characters are all well defined without beating you to death with the issues each one has. I did struggle with the naivety of our heroine, but no one is perfect. I think the best statement I can make for this books is that I don’t usually read “Vampire Books” I’m a mystery girl through and through, but I felt myself so in love with the characters and was so wrapped up in the story the supernatural stuff fell to the wayside. Which is something I really liked. Sometimes books with a supernatural theme forces it, it sort of beats you in the head with the fact that there are these “strange” happenings. These books stay true to that theme and the characters and the legend that goes with those things, without it being the only thing happening in the book. I loved the fullness of the story without a sense of being overwhelming. It’s a great read and I completely recommend it to everyone.
